Omo Valley - Painted by Nadia Lamaani

Acrylic on Canvas (24"x 30")

Did you know, Ethiopia is the only country In Africa that has NEVER been colonised by a European Power?

This hidden treasure amongst the Ethiopian culture borders South Sudan and Kenya and is far separated from any touch of modern society, making it one of the most remote and ancient inhabited regions left on our planet.

Today the Omo Valley is home to 10 distinct enthic groups. This painting represents a young girl from the Mursi tribe who are known to not wear clothes, but instead, body paint that is made from clay and sheets of cloth.

In celebration of Black History Month, I wanted to celebrate a country that has battled for centuries to keep its independence as well as express the beauty in its artistic nature and deep connectedness to ancient tradition, black power, peace and wellbeing.
